Um pequenino edifício se esconde entre grandes prédios em uma das ruas mais movimentadas e tradicionais de Florianópolis: a rua Bocaíuva. Com apenas 3 pavimentos elevados sob pilotis, cada andar abriga uma geração da família Cascaes e o térreo, abriga um verdadeiro oásis no centro da cidade.

No primeiro andar, morava o avô, que faleceu durante a pandemia de Covid. No segundo andar mora a sua filha, e no terceiro andar a sua neta. O terreno em questão está na família a gerações e a sua área verde foi, por muitos anos, cuidada pelo avô, que nele cultivou um pomar incrível, com limoeiros, goiabeiras, jabuticabeiras, laranjeiras e muitas outras árvores. Com o avanço de sua idade, o quintal foi ficando cada vez mais de lado, até que foi tomado por ervas daninhas e pela densa sombra das árvores. Com a pandemia, a família passou a frequentar mais essa a área externa e sentiu necessidade de requalifica-la. Houveram algumas tentativas (frustradas) de cumprir a missão no estilo Do it Yourself, e foi aí que eu entrei na história.

A small building hides between tall ones in one of the busiest and most traditional streets in Florianópolis: Rua Bocaíuva. With only 3 upper floors raised over colums, each floor is home of a generation of the Cascaes family and the ground floor holds a true oasis. The land in question belongs to the family for generations and its green area was, for many years, taken care of by the grandfather, who cultivated an incredible orchard, with lemon trees, guava trees, jabuticaba trees, orange trees and many others. As he got older, the yard became more and more sideways, until it was overgrown with weeds and the dense shade of trees. With the pandemic, the family started to frequent this outdoor area more and felt the need to requalify it. There were a few failed attempts to complete the mission by themselves and that's when I got into it.

Quando fui fazer o levantamento, me deparei com um lugar carregado de história e com muito potencial. O portão e um pedaço da grade da antiga casa do avo, de antes mesmo da construção o prédio, estava todo enferrujado e jogado num canto do jardim. O piso da garagem era metade uma bela e antiga cerâmica, e metade um piso branco de segunda qualidade com um rejunte escuro horrível, estava todo trincado, e era muito fácil de escorregar e cair alí. As muitas árvores do terreno estavam fora do controle com copas densas demais. Rente ao muro, uma floreira inacabada, e bem no meio do jardim, um gramado sintético.

When I went to do the survey, I came across a place full of history and with a lot of potential. The gate and a piece of the grating of the old grandfather's house from even before the building was built, was all rusted and thrown in a corner of the garden. The garage floor was half beautiful old tile, and half second-rate white flooring with horrible dark grout, it was all cracked, and it was very easy to slip and fall in there. The many trees on the ground were out of control with too dense canopies. Close to the wall, an unfinished planter, and right in the middle of the garden, a synthetic lawn.

O piso antigo virou piso novo. A velha grade virou uma fonte, e o portão um adorno no jardim. O retrô se funde com contemporâneo, e a sobriedade com a ludicidade. A casinha da árvore do Alex é discreta e ao mesmo tempo imponente. Os tons claros do pergolado e do chuveirão trazem leveza e se alinham com a fonte de jardim. Na parte mais ensolarada do terreno, uma bela horta com direito a composteira, para alimentar os hábitos saudáveis da família.

The old floor became a new floor. The old railing became a fountain, and the gate an ornament in the garden. Retro merges with contemporary, and sobriety with playfulness. Alex's tree house is discreet and imposing at the same time. The light tones of the pergola and the shower bring lightness and align with the garden fountain. In the sunniest part of the land, a beautiful vegetable garden to feed the healthy habits of the family.

Depois de tantas rupturas se forma uma unidade: o piso da garagem, predominantemente de concreto, é cortado por fitas ceramicas que se dissolvem ao chegar no gramado, demarcando os caminhos e os canteiros do jardim. Um ritmo se forma no caminhar, passos de cerâmica, passos concreto, e pausas nos espaços de caquinho.

A vegetação é tropical, predominantemente nativa do Brasil. Maciços vegetais marcam e servem de fundo aos espaços de estar, ao mesmo tempo uma mistura de plantas que acompanha os muros foi pensada para trazer um aspecto mais naturalista e desordenar os caminhos ortogonais do jardim. Bromélias e pacovas, verdadeiras esculturas naturais, marcam o aqui e o ali. Palmeiras rabo de peixe foram plantadas para atingir grandes alturas e amenizar as empenas dos edifícios vizinhos, fechando o jardim para si mesmo. Diferentes tons de verde se sobrepõem, e pontos de cor roxo e rosa aparecem entre eles. Apenas uma árvore foi cortada, acabou que ela estava bem na frente de onde a fonte foi construída, e por mais que agente tentou desviar dela, não ia dar certo as goiabas caindo dentro da água.

After so many ruptures, a unit is formed: the garage floor, predominantly made of concrete, is cut by ceramic tapes that dissolve when reaching the lawn, demarcating the paths and flower beds in the garden. A rhythm is formed in the walk, ceramic steps, concrete steps, and pauses in the shard spaces.

We chose tropical plants, mostly native from Brazil. Botanical masses mark and serve as background to the living places, at the same time, a mixture of plants embroider the walls so it can bring a more natural aspect and disorder to the aligned pathways in the Garden. Fishtail Palms were planted so they grow and hide the neighbors high walls, closing the Garden to itself. Different shades of green overlap each other and points of color show up between them.

Mais que o desenho as texturas são protagonistas dessa obra. A irregularidade dos cacos, a rusticidade do concreto, as diferentes malhas da cerâmica quadrada, os desenhos do ladrilho, as ripas longilienas da madeira e as grades compõem um show de profundidades e planos, que se contrastam em perfeita harmonia. Apesar de não ter o visto com mobiliário, esse jardim é o preferido do meu portfólio. Não só por sua estética, mas sim por sua história.

More than the form, the texture are the real protagonist of this Garden. The irregular shards, the concrete’s rusticity, the ceramic’s diferent grids, the tile’s drawings, the long slats of wood and the gates form a beautiful set of planes and depths, that contrast with one another in perfect Harmony. Even though I didn’t see this Garden with the furniture, this is my favorite work. Not only because of it’s stetics, but also for its story.
